SoundScriber 200. Portable Recorder - the phonograph. Made in the USA in the 50s. Recording on a flexible plastic discs 3 and 4 inches by mechanical cutting grooves. Dimensions recorder 250 x 160 x 75 mm. Weight of 2.7 kg. Powered by AC 115 v. Wiring is built on two types of vacuum tubes and 12AT7 12AU7A production Silvania. Mechanics is not very complicated, but done very carefully and technologically. Everything, down to the smallest detail will make very high quality, and still works correctly. Also produced similar recorders "SoundScriber 200 B" with the circuit with transistors and battery-powered.
Electronics was intact, but the electrolytic capacitors, I still replaced. Also we had to go through and clean the sound pickup as it lost contact. On the mechanics of the serious problems also were not, but had to be replaced from time to time damaged rubber grommets motor and lubricate all rotating parts. The recording head was completely intact.
Dynamic microphone with remote activation switch is connected to the recorder via a three-core cable to the screen hard, no connector. Rubber sheath cable remained good, but the plastic insulation can supply almost completely collapsed and had to be replaced. The microphone also combines the function of the speaker. Power cord and microphone removed in a special compartment in the rear of the chassis. There are also connectors for external devices. On the left, next to the tonearm play is a volume control and the recording level, combined with the power switch. Right next to the tonearm is recording button on the record. When the button is pressed, the arm is raised. When the button is pressed, the arm is omitted, and the recording needle pressed against the plastic disc. It is also near the lever, when pressed during recording, the needle moves to the "step" forward. In this on-disk image "gap" separating the desired parts of a record, as in vinyl plate between songs. Tonearm over the playback and recording tonearm has a ruler to find the right place and determine the balance of free disk space.
Currently, the machine is in good working condition.

The left arm is playing, right - arm entries. The front panel indicator light is located in the middle

Microphone included a fabric cover. In the photo on the right shows that the microphone cable is well preserved, and the braided wire power collapsed almost completely

On the inside of the lid is glued brief instruction manual

To preserve the original look of electrolytic capacitors, I removed the interior aluminum sleeves, and put them with new capacitors correct size and rating. Get capacitors are very similar to the original

On the left bottom is visible from three broken damper motor. In the photo on the right installed new shock absorbers

Sound pickup disassembled

In the photo at the bottom right needle, cut the groove
